經濟全球化已導至大企業和銀行的規模和權力極度擴張，也令我們面對的問題更惡化：原教主義和種族沖突、氣候反常和物種滅絕、金融不穩定和失業等等，而個人的代價也倖免不了。
電影《快樂經濟學》描寫一個同時步向兩個相反方向的世界。一方面政府和大企業繼續宣揚全球化和企業權力的整合，另一方面全球各地的人民正反抗這些政策，要求重新再監管金融和貿易，開始共同建造一個以本土經濟為基礎的更具人性和生態意義的不同的未來。來自六大洲共同的聲音，包括西藏流亡政府的總理桑東仁波切、印度的生態運動者范達娜‧席娃和美國的環保主義作家比爾‧麥奇本，告訴我們氣候變化和油價高企已經令我們無選擇的餘地：我們需要本地化，將經濟帶回本土。《快樂經濟學》恢複我們對人文的信心，也挑戰我們對建立一個更加美好的世界的可能。
