巴別塔的困擾 – 探討語言和翻譯中的哲學層面及議題
我們常常以為翻譯只是把一種語言轉換成另一種語言。因為傳統的西方語言觀告訴我們：語言就像透明的工具。翻譯就是換一套符號，也能完全表達同樣的意思。
但真的是這樣嗎？當我們看外語電影、閱讀翻譯書目，或者只是和不同文化與語言背景的人交談時，我們已經感受到：有些東西似乎永遠無法「完全翻譯」。
這個問題，其實早於《聖經》的巴別塔故事就已經被提出。上帝將各族的語言分裂，讓人類彼此分隔。而為了理解彼此，我們需要翻譯。二十世紀的思想家，如班雅明Walter Benjamin、利科Paul Ricoeur 和德里達Jacques Derrida，都在思考：什麼是翻譯？我們該如何翻譯？如何翻譯「不可譯性」 (How to Translate the Untranslatable)?
這場講座將以輕鬆的分享和對話方式，帶大家一起思考語言、翻譯與理解的哲學意義，也希望讓大家交流看法和討論自身經驗。
